campeonato de primera b 1986
Torneo de la segunda división del futbol argentino que se jugó entre el 1 de febrero y el 24 de junio, y fue implementado para establecer la clasificación de los 20 equipos participantes, con vistas a la conformación del Campeonato Nacional B 1986-87, recientemente creado por la Asociación del Fútbol Argentino con la finalidad de incorporar regularmente a los equipos indirectamente afiliados a los campeonatos oficiales, por medio de un sistema de ascensos y descensos.
Para su disputa se agregaron Defensa y Justicia y Deportivo Armenio (ascendidos de la Primera C).

Lanús finalizó en la 4° posición de la Zona A y con ello accedió al lote de equipos que se incorporan al Torneo Nacional B 1986/87. Del mismo modo accedió al Reducido por el ascenso a Primera A, pero quedó eliminado por Huracán en el primer cruce al ser superado en ambos partidos. Gilmar G. Villagran con 11 goles fue el goleador del equipo durante el torneo. Ricardo Demagistris y Osvaldo Santos con 20 partidos fueron los jugadores con más presencias en el certamen. Los DTs del equipo durante el torneo fueron Roberto Ferreiro y luego, la dupla Roberto Avalos y Fernando Parenti.
SINTESIS DEL TORNEO
El torneo arrojó siete (7) equipos que accedieron al Nacional B: Los Andes, Defensa y Justicia, Lanús, Banfield, Tigre, Deportivo Armenio y Colón de Santa Fe), mientras que Deportivo Italiano ganó el Torneo octogonal y ascendió a Primera División, tras empatar en el partido desempate y vencer en los penales a Huracán, quien descendió por primera vez en la historia a la segunda categoría. Por último, los doce (12) equipos restantes que no lograron clasificar al Nacional B se mantuvieron en la categoría, con lo cual quedaron relegados a la Primera B convertida en tercera categoría. Estos clubes fueron: A la Primera B Metropolitana: Deportivo Morón, Atlanta, Almirante Brown, Nueva Chicago, Defensores de Belgrano, Argentino de Rosario, Estudiantes (BA), El Porvenir, San Miguel, All Boys, Villa Dálmine y Quilmes. No hubo descensos a la Primera C.
